Morgan President David Wilson and a group of fellow presidents and senior administrators from seven Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) returned to China recently to continue developing partnerships and relationships with universities in that country. The trip marked the second of its kind for the delegation; the first occurred in 2013 and resulted in the award of 1,000 scholarships to HBCUs for their students to study at Chinese institutions, with costs for tuition, room and board to be covered by the Chinese government.
While in China, the HBCU delegation met with representatives from the Chinese Ministry of Education and the China Education Association for International Exchange, and visited four universities: Nanjing Normal University, Yangzhou University, Ningbo University and Fudan University. The trip was organized by the China–United States Exchange Foundation (CUSEF) and hosted by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC).
Along with Morgan, other HBCUs represented included Florida A&M University, Florida Memorial University, Harris-Stowe State University, Jarvis Christian College, Morehouse College, and Lincoln University. Members of the delegation are optimistic that the return trip will expand collaboration with their Chinese counterparts and increase international educational study opportunities for students of color to study in China.
