Gabriel Kroiz, associate professor and chair of Undergraduate Design in Morgan State University’s School of Architecture and Planning, teamed with artist Mina Cheon to create 15 outdoor light sculptures that will be on display as a part of “Light City Baltimore.” The Kroiz Cheon collaborative named their project “Diamonds Light Baltimore.” It will illuminate landscapes along sections of the inner harbor’s promenade, meant to signify the two Baltimores, the prosperous and hopeful Baltimore and the other in a constant state of emergency, according to the artists. The couple hopes the project will spark dialogue between the city and its residents, leading, perhaps, to healing through art.
Visitors can see the Diamonds Light Baltimore display at Light City Baltimore, the first large scale outdoor light festival in the country, beginning March 28th and running through April 3rd in downtown Baltimore. And visitors should not miss the Morgan State University Sound Off Live stage in front of the Hard Rock Café at the inner harbor for some great homegrown musical entertainment, kicked off by the Morgan State University Jazz Ensemble Monday, March 28th and again Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. each evening.
And don’t miss the Light City Lantern Parade, Monday, March 28, 2016 at 7:00 p.m., rain or shine. The parade begins at Rash Field and ends at the intersection of President Street and Eastern Avenue. Morgan State University’s famed Drumline will be one of the features of the parade.
