The Morgan State University community will celebrate its legacy of civil rights student activism with two days of celebration, campus lectures, presentations and panel discussion.

On November 9, the MSU Robert M. Bell Center for Civil Rights in Higher Education will present Carry the Torch: Continuing Morgan’s Legacy of Civil Rights and Equal Justice, a symposium designed to honor and present discussion of the Morgan State College alumni who, as student activists, initiated a national movement of civil disobedience in 1950s and 1960s through organized “sit-ins” and civil rights demonstrations at local and regional businesses.

On November 10, MSU will host its annual Founder’s Day convocation, with acclaimed civil rights activist and federal legislator John Lewis serving as the keynote speaker. The convocation will engage Morgan students and alumni to hear the voices of civil rights progress past and present, with a focus on the future of civil rights and activism in the United States.

Immediately following, the university will unveil the MSU Student Civil Rights Exhibit in the University Student Center, with a reception to follow immediately after in the Earl S. Richardson Library.
