Morgan Appoints GWU’s Scott As New Athletic Director

“I am pleased to welcome Ed Scott to his new home at Morgan State,” said Dr. Wilson. “He has proven himself successful with athletic programs very similar to Morgan’s, and, although we know there are some challenging days ahead, we also know that he is prepared to take the helm of this program and move us toward a better future.”

Scott is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Albany, State University of New York, where he attained his baccalaureate degree in psychology and his Master of Science degree in educational administration and policy studies. During his undergraduate years, he played collegiate baseball for four years and was team captain for one year.

Scott comes to Morgan as a professional administrator and executive in intercollegiate athletics with more than 13 years of experience. His most recent assignment was as senior associate director of athletics at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., helping the men’s basketball team to the 2016 National Invitation Tournament Championship — the first in the school’s history. Before that, Scott was the senior associate director of athletics and divisional diversity officer for athletics at Binghamton University in Binghamton, N.Y. In both positions, he was heavily involved with NCAA academic and compliance policies and protocols. He now brings his wealth of experience to assist scholar-athletes and programs at Morgan.

“I am excited about Ed Scott. He is a talented and skillful administrator and I am confident he will lead our athletic program to success for many years to come,” said Craig Spencer, MSU class of 1983 and a member of Morgan’s storied 1979 championship football team.

“I am honored and humbled to join Morgan State University as its new director of athletics,” said Scott. “I appreciate the support of President Wilson, Student Affairs Vice President Kevin Banks, Faculty Athletics Representative Stella Hargett, alumni, the search committee and all who were involved in this process. My wife, Tara, and I are excited to join the MSU family and for the opportunity to partner with the Baltimore community to make a positive impact on the lives of scholar-athletes at Morgan.”

Edward Scott replaces Floyd Kerr, who retired on June 30, 2016. He begins his new duties on November 7, 2016, reporting directly to the president, an indication of the importance Wilson places on the athletic and academic success of Morgan’s scholar-athletes.

“I am committed to preparing our student-athletes for success on the field and in the classroom and ultimately becoming the leaders America will need in the future,” said Wilson.

Morgan State University, founded in 1867, is a Carnegie-classified doctoral research institution offering more than 60 academic programs leading to bachelor’s degrees as well as programs at the master’s and doctoral levels. As Maryland’s premier public urban research university, Morgan serves a multiethnic and multiracial student body and seeks to ensure that the doors of higher education are opened as wide as possible to as many as possible.
