A first-generation college student at Morgan State was awarded a $10,000 scholarship from a partnership between McDonald's and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.

Quamir Payton, a freshman musical theater major, received the Inspiration Celebration Scholarship during a stop in the McDonald's Inspiration Celebration Gospel Tour. Payton was presented his check in front of 5,000 people at the Word of Faith Family Worship Cathedral in Austell, Ga. on July 13.

The 3.9 GPA student said he will use the scholarship funds to continue to pursue his career in musical theater.

The partnership between McDonald's and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund provides five students at historically black colleges and and universities with $10,000 awards each to help cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, and room and board for the 2018-2019 school year.
