Statement from Morgan President David Wilson on Harford County, MD Incident

First, let me express on behalf of Morgan State University, my deepest condolences to the families that have been impacted by this unfortunate situation.  Secondly on the advice of counsel, we cannot discuss the specifics of this case; however, I want to make the Morgan community and the larger community aware of the following:

1.  The events reported out of Harford County did not occur on Morgan’s campus;

2. We want to assure our parents, students, faculty, staff, alumni and all of our supporters, that the safety and well-being of our campus community continues to be a priority; and

3. Finally, we will continue to gather facts and will update the community as appropriate.

Morgan State University is many things to the city of Baltimore, the state of Maryland and the nation. It is an academic destination of the highest caliber and a vital research partner in the state’s efforts to expand understanding and solution of problems in health, homeland security and secondary education. It is a place where students look to enhance their personal legacy of achievement, and where some begin the narrative rewrite of their family’s economic and social circumstances.

But one thing it is not, in any form, real or perceived, is a negligent bystander in the protection of our students and our campus community.
