Morgan State University’s goals over the next five years include hitting a 50 percent graduation rate and winning more sporting championships.
At the start of this academic year, Morgan State’s President David Wilson noted several goals for the fiscal year that included the complete renovation of a campus research center, the successful conclusion of the school’s $250 million fundraising campaign, the start of the Northwood shopping center redevelopment and a long-term plan to address student housing needs. Several of those goals, including the fundraising goal and the initiation of the Northwood project, have already been accomplished.
The new set of goals build on those efforts and the university’s existing strategic plan, which was first laid out in 2011, to plot Morgan State’s intended path through 2023.
Earlier this year, Wilson secured a new five-year contract from the university’s board. Now, he is “refocusing” and planning for what else he hopes to accomplish in that time.
“Although we have made many great strides here at Morgan, we have yet to attain all of the ambitious goals we set for ourselves seven years ago,” Wilson said in a statement. “This reassessment of our goals is not a redirection, but a continuation down our current path of progress and a recognition of the things we need to anticipate during the next five years.”
Here are some of things Morgan State is working toward:
- increasing enrollment to between 9,000 and 10,000 students
- increasing students graduation rate to 50 percent by 2025
