Language Building Blocks Workshops

*Language Building Blocks* emphasizes the centrality of language in the
early years and beyond, even in core content areas, including math and
science.   Research shows that students must first acquire the necessary
language and linguistic skills they need to be formally instructed and to
process content (i.e., to interact with what they hear, see, and/or
experience at school).

Education, sociology, linguistics, and world languages faculty and
students, and folks in Family and Consumer Sciences and psychology and
social work, in particular, will find this resource valuable for multiple
courses, including best practices for phonics and vocabulary instruction,
reading, math and science education, language and (bi)literacy acquisition,
health literacy, effective technology integration, family and community
engagement, special needs, the history of English, PRAXIS, empowering
students and communities, Common Core, WIDA, and other stipulated standards
(and seamless integration strategies), and the interplay of language,
power, and ideology.

Copies will be available at a discounted rate that day and a portion will
