Yacob Astatke, D.Eng., interim associate dean for Undergraduate Studies at Morgan State University’s School of Engineering, has been selected for the 2016 College-Level Promotion of Education Award by Career Communications Group. The award will be presented at the Black Engineer of the Year Award’s (BEYA) Global Competitiveness Conference in Philadelphia. Dr. Astatke was selected for this national recognition because of his demonstrated commitment to Morgan and other engineering colleges in preserving superior engineering, scientific and technical education programs and for inspiring students to consider and pursue careers in STEM-related fields.
BEYA’s peer-reviewed College-Level Promotion of Education award is only granted to individuals in the academic community, nominated by either a collegiate faculty or administrative staffer. The applications for those nominated go through the rigor of a selection panel review from leaders of industry, government, and academia, before being recommended for an award.
The BEYA STEM Conference, hosted by Lockheed Martin Corporation, The Council of HBCU Engineering Deans, and Career Communications Group (CCG), takes place in Philadelphia in February of 2016. CCG is the publisher of U.S. Black Engineer & Information Technology magazine, Hispanic Engineer & Information Technology magazine, Women of Color magazine and Black Engineer.com.
Congratulations Dr. Astatke, for all that you do for the students at Morgan State University!
