Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan has appointed Morgan’s Dr. Edwin T. Johnson to serve on the Maryland Commission on African American History and Culture (MCAAHC). As Maryland’s primary collector, interpreter, preserver and promoter of the state’s African American history, the commission provides research assistance and documents that history through art objects, memorabilia, photographs and other important articles about Maryland’s African American culture.
“I am both honored and excited about joining this commission and being a part of the vital work it is doing to preserve our history in Maryland,” says Dr. Johnson. “This falls right in line with much of my research interest.”
After receiving his baccalaureate degree from Morgan State University, Johnson went on to earn a Master’s degree in African American Studies and the PhD in History, also from Morgan. He is the current senior coordinator for Student Disability Support Services.
