SA+P Alumni recognized at Founder’s Day Convocation

At the 2016 Founder’s Day Convocation on November 10, School of Architecture and Planning alumni, Camessia Johnson ’14 and James Potter ’98 were honored with the 2016 Distinguished Alumni Award, for their professional work and service to the community. Congratulations to Camessia and Jim!

Below are their bios:

CAMESSIA D. JOHNSON earned the Bachelor of Science Degree in Architecture and Environmental Design in 2014, where she studied as one of four recipients of the Inaugural AIABaltimore Future Architects
Resources (FAR) Student Design Scholarship in herjunior year. An Associate in the American Institute of Architects and Associate Director for the AIABaltimore Executive Board, she is currently an architectural and graphic designer at BCT Architects in Baltimore, Maryland, where she works on various projects types, including mixed-use, retails, multi-family housing, adaptive-reuse, master planning and environmental graphics. She is a young leaser, mentor, outreach organizer and volunteer who promotes diversity and inclusion in the design industry and who increases student awareness and appreciation of built environment by co-directing a design/build workshop for youth called “Adopt-A-School.”

JAMES POTTER earned the Master of City and Regional Planning Degree in 1998, after receiving a bachelor’s degree in geography and environmental planning from Towson State University. He also earned master’s degrees in business administration and in environmental management from the University of Maryland University College. Having worked for ten years in the private sector and another ten years as Senior Military Master Planner and Site Designer with land development engineering firms, he has been Community Planner in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Office of Environment and Energy in Washington, D.C., for the last ten years. In 2015, he was chosen by the President’s Management Council Interagency Rotation Program for a six-month assignment as Interagency Coordinator for the Bakken Federal Executive Group, where he manages a coalition of 19 federal entities working the oil fields of North Dakota under the Bureau of Land Management’s Montana/Dakotas State Director/BFEG Chair. Mr. Potter is nationally certified through the American Institute of Certified Planners and licensed by the State of New Jersey as a professional planner.
