AAFCS Elects Morgan Professor Jacqueline Holland As President

Congratulations to Morgan State University’s Dr. Jacqueline Holland, assistant professor in the department of Family and Consumer Sciences, who was elected earlier this year as the new president of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS). Dr. Holland was installed during AAFCS’s 108th Annual Conference & Expo held this past June in Dallas, Texas.

As president of AAFCS, Dr. Holland will serve as presiding officer of the Board of Directors and the Leadership Council, which is comprised of representatives from affiliates nationwide, undergraduate and graduate students, the Assembly of Higher Education, and the Past Presidents Unit. Additionally, she will also be responsible for appointing AAFCS members to national committees. Dr. Holland is the fifth minority to be elected as president during the organization’s 108-year history.

“I am excited and honored to serve in this capacity and to work with diverse leaders in the profession,” said Dr. Holland. “One of my goals this year is to facilitate individuals of diverse cultures and backgrounds to serve in leadership roles in the organization.”

For more than 100 years, AAFCS has provided leadership and support to professionals whose work assists individuals, families, and communities in making informed decisions about their well-being, relationships, and resources to achieve optimal quality of life. Members provide research-based knowledge about the essential topics of everyday life.

Dr. Holland joined Morgan in 2013.
