The Maryland African American Museum Corporation (MAAMC) has elected Morgan State University’s Dr. Maurice C. Taylor, vice president forAcademic Outreach and Engagement, as its new chairman of the Board of Directors. MAAMC, an independent unit within the executive branch of the Maryland State government, manages the Baltimore-based Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture.
As MAAMC’s Chair, Dr. Taylor will be responsible for presiding over all Board meetings, along with signing and executing all authorized deeds, mortgages, bonds, contracts, or other instruments as needed. Additionally, as Chair, he will oversee the preparation of the museum’s strategic plan, assisting in setting its goals and priorities. Along with Dr. Taylor, there are also several other members of Morgan’s faculty serving on the MAAMC Board of Directors including Drs. Annette Palmer (History and Geography) and Karen Proudford (Business Honors), and professor Dale Greenwood (Design and Construction). The Corporation’s Board of Directors consists of thirty-seven members, thirty-six of which are appointed by the Governor of Maryland.
Morgan’s commitment to the preservation, study and appreciation of the arts also extends beyond this connection with the Reginald F. Lewis Museum. In addition to having faculty serving on the board, the University also owns and operates two museums: The Lillie Carroll Jackson Civil Rights Museum and The James E. Lewis Museum of Art and Culture.
