Given our current realities and in the best interest of our student-athletes—and our greater Morgan community—we stand behind the MEAC’s decision to suspend all sports and athletic competitions for the fall season. As a conference of institutions of higher education, we are united in our steadfast commitment to maintaining and promoting the safety and wellness of our students. We understand that the suspension of fall sports at Morgan will be disappointing to the many supporters of our Bears athletic teams, particularly for our students and alumni. Unfortunately, the escalation of COVID-19 has elevated our concern and necessity to proactively reduce the likelihood of community spread by limiting occasions of close physical proximity. The very nature of athletic competition runs counter to social distancing and therefore, we are aligned in the decision to forgo fall sports as a means to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and promote safe social distance on our campus.
