The campaign raised the money from more than 15,000 supporters. The money will be used to advance teaching and research, grow the University’s endowment, develop academic programs, provide student scholarships and further community engagement.

The Anniversary Campaign effort, which coincided with the University’s celebration of its 150-year anniversary in 2017, spanned more than a year, officially kicking off during Morgan’s Founders Day Convocation in 2016. Morgan State alumnus and former music executive and current entrepreneur Kevin Liles served as the campaign’s honorary chairman.

The Anniversary Campaign set out to raise funds from private and public sources, to sustain Morgan’s  affordability and accessibility, maintain a campus with stellar teaching and research capabilities that promotes learning and interaction, and deepen engagement with the surrounding neighborhoods.

With the campaign now concluded, Morgan will be in a better position to provide much-needed financial aid and scholarships to students in need as well as support for study abroad and other international student experiences. The community engagement activities will include more support for the Morgan Community Mile and targeted research initiatives. More resources will also be provided to the University’s Center for Civic and Community Engagement as well as the Institute for Urban Research.

Through the support of thousands of contributors, Morgan is able to advance education inside and outside of the classroom. Each year, alumni, friends and staff make contributions, knowing that their collective action has a positive impact on the lives of Morgan students. Innovative academic programming and career counseling, coupled with hands-on experiences in research labs, community centers and study abroad programs, prepare Morgan students to become well-rounded leaders, scholars and citizens of the world.
