MSU School of Global Journalism and Communication Launches Journalism Review

Morgan State University’s School of Global Journalism and Communication (SGJC) breaks new ground this month with the publication of Morgan Global Journalism Review (MGJR), a quarterly e-magazine that examines media, communication and information technology on the international stage.

Available online at MGJR, this electronic magazine provides reporting and analysis on media and communications trends, issues and events from a global perspective. The first issue includes stories on African journalists’ use of digital and social media, storytelling in South Sudan and why foreign reporting needs a global perspective. Award-winning journalists Les Payne and Tonyaa Weathersbee, and writers throughout the diaspora contribute their ideas and thoughts to make this a lively and thought-provoking journal.

“Columbia Journalism Review and American Journalism Review both do a great job of looking at the media here in the United States. MGJR will fill a much needed niche, one that has often been overlooked by mainstream media,” says DeWayne Wickham, SGJC dean. “We will provide journalism and journalism education with a worldwide view.”

MGJR is edited and produced by the staff and faculty of MSU School of Global Journalism and Communication. The team is headed by Jackie Jones, chairperson of SGJC’s Dept. of Multimedia Journalism and a former editor at the Washington Post.

Future stories will include a global look at the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and how it influenced other freedom and liberation movements around the world.
