Paynesville – Twenty-one Liberians are expected to shortly benefit from a fully-funded scholarship to study at the Morgan State University in the United States.
The program is a partnership between the Paynesville City Corporation (PCC) and the Earl G. Graves School of Business and Management at the Morgan State University.
The students will pursue their Master in Business and Management.
The plan of the scholarship was made known by Mayor Pam Belcher Taylor on September 19, at the Paynesville City Hall.
The scholarship is open to students of all universities in the country. Qualify students seeking the scholarship are to apply through PCC Website.
The scholarship scheme was made available by the Morgan State University through Mayor Pam Belcher-Taylor during her recent visit to the US.
During her visit, Mayor Taylor and the Dean of the Earl G. Graves School of Business and Management held discussions on potential educational opportunities for Liberian students.
Speaking at the vetting program of the scholarship scheme, Mayor Taylor lauded the Morgan State University for the opportunity afforded to Liberian students.
She said lobbying for the empowerment of Liberians through education is part of her initiatives as mayor, stating “My focus and inspiration is to educate as many Liberians in my life time”.
According to her, the scholarship will be awarded to needy students based on merit. She used the occasion to encourage Liberians to participate in the vetting process.
Speaking further, Mayor Taylor said her role is not limited to waste management but as well as exploring other avenue of opportunities for the betterment of the people of Paynesville and Liberia at large.
“The work of a mayor is not only about waste management but also to ensure the life of the people are improved. And education is the biggest gift I can give my people”, she averred.
Also speaking, a representative of the Morgan State University, Daniel N. Kolubah urged the students to take advantage of the opportunity.
Kolubah added that the first batch of candidates that will be selected for the scholarship scheme will depart the country for the US in March 2020.
