Morgan Fashion Students Make MAGIC in Vegas

During the months of February and August, the who’s who of the retail industry convene in Las Vegas for the country’s largest and most comprehensive fashion sourcing showcase—MAGIC. Among those that attended this past February’s MAGIC event was a contingent of Morgan Fashion Merchandising students from the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS). Seventeen Morgan students, led by FACS faculty members Dr. LaPorchia Davis and Professor Najma Jamaludeen, were presented with a unique opportunity to explore the fashion supply chain from design and manufacturing to fabrics and technology. Each student was also able to attend panel discussions led by brand designers and CEOs and were exposed the ins and outs of starting a business. In addition, they also visited the showrooms for textiles, accessories, footwear, and beauty lines, when they weren’t networking with private label manufacturers. Overall, it was a great experience for students looking to break into the fashion industry.

Produced by UBM Fashion, whose mission is to unite the most influential fashion retail decision makers and the world’s top fashion brands, MAGIC is the link to the entire global supply chain when it comes to fashion. The event highlights the latest in apparel, footwear, accessories, and manufacturing covering everything from advanced contemporary luxury brands to the latest trends in fast fashion. Over the years, it has become an incredible source of inspiration, education, innovation and resources that keep fashion and the business of fashion moving forward. More than 40 countries are represented at MAGIC, making it a must-see attraction for designers, brands, and retailers.
