Latest Rankings from NCTQ Perplexing

Morgan State University was recently listed among a national ranking of undergraduate teacher education programs at colleges and universities nationwide. While Morgan’s ranking was comparable with programs at most of Maryland’s state and private colleges, there appears to be inconsistency with its ranking of our programs, and their view of the rigor and support our program provides for students.

Morgan has a rich legacy of producing graduates who go on to serve as some of the best educators in the State of Maryland and beyond. Among the latest examples of Morgan’s influence in teacher preparation is Albert Lewis, a 2007 graduate who was last month named the Teacher of the Year in Prince George’s County, MD.

Contrary to the report, NCTQ profiled Morgan as one of the nation’s model institutions for elementary and secondary education teacher training. That profile was listed on their June 17 blog entry, which can be read here.

Additionally, the Council produced a brief video outlining the value of our program, from the perspective of those who build and maintain it. That entry gave Morgan “four out of four stars” for teacher preparation.

When future teachers are provided with appropriate resources and support at the collegiate level, we know that passionate educators and stronger secondary schools are the byproduct. We look forward to continuing support for one of Morgan’s signature undergraduate programs, and being an active partner in Maryland’s drive to be among the nation’s best in educating our youth.
