Morgan State University today announced a new partnership between its School of Education and Urban Studies and internationally acclaimed author James Patterson to enhance teacher education in Baltimore City and throughout the State of Maryland.
Eight students majoring in teacher education have received a total of $48,000 in scholarship support from The Patterson Family Foundation, through the establishment of the MSU James Patterson Teacher Education Scholarship Fund. Morgan officials call the funding a welcome investment into one of the region’s premier programs supporting stronger K-12 education.
“We are grateful to James Patterson and his Family Foundation for their support of Morgan’s legacy in teacher preparation,” said Morgan State President David Wilson. “These scholarships will help our students to realize their dreams of teaching America’s youth, and in turn, will help thousands of secondary students shape a path to educational excellence.”
Morgan is among a select group of 17 colleges and universities nationwide to receive support from the Patterson Family Foundation, and is one of only three historically Black colleges partnering with the Foundation in support of secondary education.
Regarded as one of the world’s most prolific authors, James Patterson has sold more than 275 million books worldwide in adult and children’s fiction, and is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most hardcover fiction bestselling titles, 89, by a single author.
