The Glenn H. Curtiss Museum in Hammondsport, New York has selected an art work by architect, educator, and artist Ruth Connell for the museum’s permanent collection. The Curtiss Museum acquisition is the oil painting “Sunny Point I (for Annie)”, created by the artist on site at Lake Keuka in 2012. The painting was exhibited alongside twenty other works by the artist this summer in “Art of the Finger Lakes: Ruth Connell Artist”. Over 12,000 visited the exhibition from May 23 to September 2.
A regional museum in central New York, The Glenn H. Curtiss Museum showcases the life work of the aviation pioneer Glenn H. Curtiss, as well as exhibiting and archiving art and artifacts relevant to the Finger Lakes and to New York State.
Professor Connell paints primarily in oils, and likes both studio and plein air painting. Connell’s printmaking medium of choice is lithography. Her concentration is on the landscape and the process of abstraction. As both an architect and an artist, she is interested in the visual dynamics of our everyday environments, and in the idealization of the natural world. Her work has been shown in several juried exhibitions.
Originally from Corning, NY, Professor Connell returns frequently to visit upstate New York with her camera, painting materials and walking shoes.
