Morgan State University administrators, faculty, staff, students and alumni visited Maryland’s capital on March 28, 2017, to celebrate “Morgan Sesquicentennial Day” in Annapolis. The event was an opportunity to recognize and honor the contributions the University has made to the state of Maryland during Morgan’s 150 years of existence. While at the capital, students paired with Morgan alumni to visit lawmakers in the Maryland House of Delegates and the Maryland Senate to let them know about some of the great things happening at the University and to thank them for their continued support. Lawmakers were presented with memorabilia commemorating Morgan’s 150th anniversary. After the visits, the Morgan contingent was invited to the Maryland State House, where University President David Wilson was presented with legislative resolutions recognizing Morgan’s Sesquicentennial on the floors of the Maryland House and Senate.
That evening, Morgan hosted a reception for lawmakers and invited friends at the historic Governor Calvert House in Annapolis. Legislators in attendance included Maryland State Senators Joanne C. Benson, James N. Mathias Jr. and Nathaniel T. Oaks, and Maryland State Delegates Bilal Ali, Curt S. Anderson, Angela M. Angel, Dereck E. Davis, Angela C. Gibson, Jazz M. Lewis, Cory V. McCray, Maggie McIntosh, Richard W. Metzgar, Nick J. Mosby, Pamela E. Queen, Alonzo T. Washington, and Mary L. Washington. Dr. Wilson, joined by members of the MSU Board of Regents and faculty, thanked lawmakers for their partnership with Morgan over the years and encouraged their continued support in the future.
Dr. Wallace D. Loh, president of the University of Maryland, College Park, and Dr. Maria Thompson, president of Coppin State University, were also present to show their support for Morgan during its sesquicentennial celebration.
