MSU Recognized for Its Service to Military Students

Three recent accolades have affirmed the excellence of Morgan’s work with its military-affiliated students. In October, the University received notice of its “2018 Military Friendly School”designation from Victory Media. In November, Military Times announced Morgan’s selection as one of the publication’s “Best Colleges,” and the journal Military Advanced Education and Transition named Morgan a “Top School” in its 2018 Guide to Colleges and Universities.

Morgan’s mutually beneficial partnership with the U.S. military began 70 years ago when the ROTC Bear Battalion was established on campus. More than 1,300 officers have graduated from the program since, including 12 who have become general officers, making Morgan second only to West Point and South Carolina State University in producing the highest number of African-American generals in the U.S. Army.

The recent military-related recognitions stem largely from MSU’s service to the military veterans in its student body, says Kara Turner, Ph.D., MSU vice president for Enrollment Management and Student Success.

“From partnering with Maryland’s Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation for veteran hiring fairs, to participating in the Yellow Ribbon program, to working with campus partners to establish a Veterans Resource Center and Veterans Student Association, Morgan’s Veterans Engagement Services unit has worked incredibly hard over the past few years to enhance the services and resources provided to our current military and veteran population,” said Dr. Turner. “Morgan is proud of the recognition we are receiving and we look forward to continuing to strengthen our services and support for the military community.”
