Morgan State University Students Study Abroad in Guatemala

As part of an effort to expand their knowledge about global health, health disparities, and the incidence of various diseases around the world, Morgan State University students traveled to Guatemala. While there, students were trained to take blood pressure, finger stick glucose, and measure height/weight/BMI so that they can offer free health screenings to the local residents. Students were also presented with the opportunity to live with a host family, have one-on-one Spanish lessons, volunteer in a clinic and at a community health fair, as well as engage in at-home medical visits and in an elementary school. Students also participated in cultural activities such as salsa dancing, tortilla making, and weaving.
