Four students have been added to the growing number of University Innovation Fellows representing Morgan State University. The four newest inductees bring the total number to 32. This latest cohort was pinned at a special ceremony held at during the Graves Honors 12th Annual Awards Dinner at the Baltimore Marriott Hotel on May 17.
Managed by the Stanford University’s Hasso Plattner Institute of Design (d.school), the University Innovation Fellows is a global program that empowers student leaders to bring about change at their university by increasing campus engagement through innovation, entrepreneurship, creativity and design thinking. Fellows design innovation spaces, start entrepreneurship organizations, host experiential learning events, and work with faculty to develop new courses.
The new Morgan Fellows include:
Oyare Oko, junior (Electrical and Computer Engineering)
Sumayyah Raji, senior (Architecture)
Evan Roberston, junior (Finance)
Averi Turner, senior (Business Administration and Health Education)
Morgan’s Fellows join 258 students from 64 higher education institutions in nine countries. In all, the University Innovation Fellows program has trained nearly 1,500 undergraduates since it was created. Fellows are sponsored by faculty and administrators as individuals or teams of students, and selected through an application process each year. Monica Sharif, Ph.D., an assistant professor in Morgan’s Earl G. Graves School of Business and Management, serves as the group’s faculty sponsor.
Once students are accepted into the program, they must complete six weeks of rigorous online training and travel to the University Innovation Fellows Silicon Valley Meetup. Students will also take part in events and conferences throughout the academic year.
Included among the Morgan Fellows strategic priorities is improving campus communication, improving the campus dining experience, and improving campus housing. The complete list of their priorities can be reviewed online.
