Morgan State University students Trevor R. McKie and Triston Young were recently named ambassadors in the inaugural White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities ‘HBCU All-Stars’ program.
McKie and Young were selected from more than 400 applicants for their outstanding accomplishments in leadership, academics, and civic engagement. They will be recognized among 73 other undergraduate, graduate, and professional All-Stars representing 62 two-and-four-year HBCUs nationwide.
McKie, a doctoral student in Higher Education Administration program, serves as the VP of Community Service & Social Affairs of the MSU Graduate Student Association.
“It is an honor and a privilege to be nationally recognized as both a Black man and a Morgan State University student for leadership and academic achievement,” he says.
Young is a Civil Engineering & Entrepreneurship undergraduate who serves in leadership positions with several student organizations, including the Engineering Student Organization Council as well as the National Society of Black Engineers at MSU.
“I am thankful and eager to serve Morgan and the White House Initiative on HBCU’s as one of the first HBCU All-Stars,” Young says. “I hope to encourage other students nationwide to lead, serve and strive for excellence and academic success.”
According to a release, the HBCU All-Stars will serve as ambassadors to share the value of education and the work of the Initiative through regional events and mentorship from Department of Education leadership.
