Dear Morgan Family:
Last night (Friday, Jan. 27), President Trump signed an Executive Order, which, among other things, imposes a ban on individuals entering the United States from seven countries: Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Yemen, and Somalia.
Please know that we have several members of our Morgan family who hail from some of the above countries, and whose family members are still there. It is probably safe to assume that President Trump’s order will be challenged in the courts, but in the interim, we are left with many questions.
For example, we don’t know just who is covered by this order or exactly how it will be implemented. Based on what we are seeing in the media today, a number of individuals are being prevented from entering and, in some cases, re-entering the United States.
I often write to you to remind you of the values we hold high at Morgan. We are a wonderfully diverse community and value the diverse faiths represented here on campus. We do not discriminate against individuals based on their religion, gender, ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, or any other protected characteristics.
While we will continue to monitor the impact of this executive order, we believe it may be prudent to delay any plans you have to travel internationally until we are able to get more clarity on President Trump’s order.
Please remember that we are all members of one terrific Morgan Family, and will keep you posted as we learn more.
