On April 11-13, 2013, Morgan State University’s (MSU) honor students, LaShaunda Johnson, Derek Riley, Benjamin Hall, and Astrid Garrison, participated in the Career Pathways Conference for Future Homeland Security Science and Technology Professional, held in Washington, DC, and sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Office of University Programs, Science and Technology Directorate. The Conference focused on career opportunities at DHS, under the leadership and guidance of Ms. Stephanie Willett, Education Director, with the DHS Office of University Programs.

The initial cohort of students were competitively selected to participate in DHS relevant research projects under the direction of DHS principal investigators, Dr. Timothy Akers and Dr. Kevin Peters, as part of the DHS scholars for the Visual Analytics for Science and Technology (VAST) at a Minority Serving Institution grant awarded to MSU. The students will also work alongside early career faculty Drs. Kofi Nyarko (electrical engineering), James Hunter (civil engineering), and Schinnel Small’s (computer science).
