The Morgan State University Political Science Association (PSA) and campus chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha hosted a democratic mayoral forum on September 6 in the University Student Center Theater. Candidates Jody Landers, Sen. Catherine Pugh and a campaign representative for Otis Rolley were in attendance.
The forum gave the candidates an opportunity to introduce themselves to the audience and explain their agendas as the mayor of Baltimore City. Candidates answered questions about “food deserts,” the epidemic of full service grocery markets not available to citizens in city neighborhoods, growing HIV and AIDS rates, rising crime rates, economics and education.
“The idea to have this forum came from a student; from there the members of PSA gathered information on each of the candidates and reached out to their campaign teams, said Matthew Pasley, PSA president. Since Landers and Pugh are Morgan alums, we were hopeful they would attend. I am satisfied with the outcome of the forum, as it gave an informative perspective from each candidate.”
Primary elections will be held in Baltimore City on September 13, 2011.
