In a continued show of support for America’s largest free arts festival, Morgan State University will have a noticeable presence at Baltimore City’s annual Artscape event. This year, School of Architecture and Planning students, led by lecturer Brian Stansbury, will be erecting a new exhibit entitled: Camp Ready.
Tying into the event’s theme of “Camp Artscape: Adventure Awaits,” the exhibit will allow students to demonstrate various survival methods and technologies developed through an intensive research study of various disaster relief efforts. At night, Camp Ready will transform into an entertainment venue with emergency light effects, searchlights and music to celebrate another day of survival. For last summer’s Artscape, Morgan students created the Space Place exhibit as part of a giant, 1.5-mile long model solar system.
The idea behind “Camp Artscape” came about as a way of encouraging people to engage in new experiences during the summer. For a number of people, camping has long been considered as an enjoyable staple of the summer season, and the same can be said of Artscape. Attendees are being asked to step out of their comfort zone, learn something new, and experience the adventure waiting in Baltimore.
Additionally, Artscape attendees will be able to enjoy the Morgan State University Sound Off Live! Stage, which will feature a diverse mix of musical acts spanning hip hop, neo-soul, jazz, rock, and blues.
Morgan’s Camp Ready will be located in the 1300 block of Charles Street (between Mount Royal Avenue and Preston Street), and the Sound Off Live! Stage can be found at Mount Royal Avenue, near Lafayette Avenue, from July 21-23.
